چکیده

We are concerned with user selection and resource allocation in wireless networks for semi-elastic applications such as video conferencing. While many packet scheduling algorithms have been proposed for elastic applications, and many user selection algorithms have been proposed for inelastic applications, little is known about optimal user selection and resource allocation for semielastic applications in wireless networks. We consider user selection and allocation of downlink transmission power and subcarriers in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing cellular system. We pose a utility maximization problem, but find that direct solution is computationally intractable. We first propose a method that makes joint decisions about user selection and resource allocation by transforming the utility function into a concave function so that convex optimization techniques can be used, resulting in a complexity polynomial in the number of users with a bounded duality gap. This method can be implemented if the network communicates a shadow price for power to power allocation modules, which in turn communicate shadow prices for rate to individual users. We then propose a method that makes separate decisions about user selection and resource allocation, resulting in a complexity linear in the number of users.

DFT-based vs. Cooperative MET-based MU-MIMO in the Downlink of Cellular OFDM Systems

In this work, we compare different pre-coding techniques and their performance in a cellular MIMO OFDM downlink. The first target is to determine the achievable additional beamforming gain by using a near-optium pre-coder instead of DFT-based pre-coding. In the second step, we include multi-user selection diversity, which turned out to be advantageous especially for downlink cooperation. An ext...

Backhaul-Aware Decoupled Uplink and Downlink User Association, Subcarrier Allocation, and Power Control in FiWi HetNets

Decoupling the uplink and downlink user association improves the throughput of heterogeneous networks (HetNets) and balances the traffic load of macro- and small- base stations. Recently, fiber-wireless HetNets (FiWi-HetNets) have been considered as viable solutions for access networks. To improve the accuracy of user association and resource allocation algorithms in FiWi-HetNets, the capacity ...

Low Complexity Greedy Power Allocation Algorithm for Proportional Resource Allocation in Multi-User OFDM Systems

Multi-User Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MU-OFDM) is an efficient technique for achieving high downlink capacity in high-speed communication systems. A key issue in MU-OFDM is the allocation of the OFDM subcarriers and power to users sharing the channel. In this paper a proportional rate-adaptive resource allocation algorithm for MU-OFDM is presented. Subcarrier and power allocati...

Cross-layer Packet-dependant OFDM Scheduling Based on Proportional Fairness

This paper assumes each user has more than one queue, derives a new packet-dependant proportional fairness power allocation pattern based on the sum of weight capacity and the packet’s priority in users’ queues, and proposes 4 new cross-layer packet-dependant OFDM scheduling schemes based on proportional fairness for heterogeneous classes of traffic. Scenario 1, scenario 2 and scenario 3 lead r...

Optimal Power Allocation in Zero-forcing MIMO-OFDM Downlink with Multiuser Diversity

This paper considers the optimal power allocation for a multiuser MIMO-OFDM downlink system using zero-forcing multiplexing, with the objective to maximize the system capacity. First, we consider the problem of user selection and power allocation for every subcarrier. By converting this combinatorial optimization problem into a convex one, an optimal power allocation algorithm has been derived....
